Hypnotherapy isn’t actually something being done to you… it’s really all about self-hypnosis. So this is what you will be practicing here with these recordings. You cannot be hypnotized against your will, and must be willing to allow yourself to move willingly into the hypnotized state of consciousness (trance).
This process is about relaxing the conscious mind and slowing your brainwaves from their faster, waking state (beta) into alpha and theta brainwave states. In the alpha and theta states, we are able to access your subconscious mind. This is that part of your mind that is usually not known to you, but is constantly influencing your reality, behaviours, etc. This is the part of one's mind where deep internal beliefs and patterns are stored, which is why talk therapy can sometimes only take one so far. These recordings are effectively reprogramming targeted beliefs, behaviours, maladaptive patterns etc. and/or installing new programming at the subconscious level. This is what makes hypnotherapy SO powerful. Think about it like hacking your own subconscious programming!
To get the most out of these recordings, it is best to listen to them daily. Begin to notice subtle shifts in your behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and wellbeing. as you progress. The more you listen and use the recordings, the better the outcome! Not only that, but spending time in the alpha and theta brainwave states promotes relaxation and revitalization and are the same as those accessed during deep meditative states of consciousness.
During hypnotherapy (including recordings), some people feel as though they are falling asleep, physically falling, or noticing other body sensations (e.g., parts of the body may begin to tingle). You may feel a sense of being “pulled under” (akin to the feeling of falling asleep if you’re conscious enough JUST before you do). These are normal reactions and feelings during hypnotherapy and are actually a good sign that you’re on track!
It is also normal to move in and out of the alpha and theta brainwave states. This is actually a hypnosis technique used to deepen the state of relaxation one is in (i.e., pulling you out and guiding you to drift back in again), as it enables you to go back into a deeper state of relaxation when you do. So, if you find yourself drifting in and out, don’t worry – this is a normal and beneficial part of the process.
You may notice your mind jumping back into “conscious” beta waves if it is are triggered by certain words or images used during the recording. If this happens, it is also perfectly normal – but can indicate that you would benefit from a customized recording where we cut out specific words and triggers so that you can maintain steady alpha / theta brainwaves and thus the connection to the subconscious mind, bypassing that pesky conscious mind.
Remember: Practice makes perfect!
You might find it takes a few listens to the recording before you get the “hang” of it. That’s just fine. The more you listen, the better you will become at allowing yourself to slip into the alpha and theta brainwave states.
Finally, if you’re concerned about falling asleep without intending to, please set an alarm for shortly after the recording ends to wake you. Otherwise, enjoy a restful and rejuvenating nap. Even if you fall asleep during the recording or cannot remember parts of the process, you can trust that your subconscious will still be taking in the messages as needed.
